Students have access to technology throughout the day, either on one of 2 classroom computers or via a tablet. Their are several web sites and programs that we use on a regular basis and all of them can be accessed at home if you have an internet connection. Most require a user name and password and I have sent home that information. Most students can access these sites independently but if you child can't remember their personal log-ins, I can resend the information by request. Just be sure to store it somewhere accessible and convenient for use at all the places your child uses technology! Double click on the school sponsored links below to open them:
This is a site that I have personally subscribed to: Spelling City (spelling and vocabulary based on the week's story) Be sure to log in under student log-in
I use this site often for reading passages: www.readworks.org/ The site is free but you do have to register. Passages are leveled by a Lexile number rather than a guided reading letter so look for a range of about 400-800 or higher. These passages are meant to focus on comprehension which is where students need to build their skills. Being able to answer the questions is just as important as being able to read the passages fluently and accurately.
Students like this site because they think they are simply playing games. Please encourage them to work on word problems as this is a weak area for most students: www.mathplayground.com/
